Biochem Physiol Actions: Synuclein-a is known to induce oligodendrocyte maturation. Accumulation of a-synuclein in oligodendrocytes results in the loss of myelin and causes neurodegeneration, leading to multiple system atrophy. Mutations in the SNCA gene results in Parkinson's disease.
