ALOX12 (arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase) gene is mapped to human chromosome 17p13.1. The gene is a member of the lipoxygenase family and is predominantly expressed in the brain.
Synonyms: Anti-12-LOX; Anti-Arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase, 12S-type; Anti-Platelet-type lipoxygenase 12
Storage: -20C
Application: All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org)and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry. The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. Biochem Physiol Actions: Arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase is a non-heme iron-containing dioxygenase that functions in the leukotrienes pathway. It converts leukotriene A4/LTA4 into both the bioactive lipoxin A4/LXA4 and lipoxin B4/LXB4. It catalyzes both oxygenase and lipoxin synthase activity. It triggers angiogenesis and promotes tumor growth in human prostate carcinoma. It converts arachidonic acid to12(S)-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid, which is then converted to 12(S)-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid. The end product is an eicosanoid that promotes tumorigenesis and metastasis. It plays a crucial role in the survival of human vascular smooth muscle cells. It regulates epidermal barrier formation. Polymorphism in this gene has been associated with bipolar disorder.
