Application: Ethyl isocyanate may be used to generate thermoresponsiveness in polyglycidol via partial hydrophobic modification. The poly(glycidol-co-ethyl glycidyl carbamate) thus formed can undergo photocrosslinking in the presence of a photosensitizer to form thermoresponsive gels. It can also be used in the synthesis of 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[1,2-d]thiazole-2,6-diamine derivatives that are potent DNA gyrase inhibitors.
