5-(and-6)-Carboxy-2',7'-dichlorofluorescein diacetate is membrane-permeant and thus can be loaded into cells via incubation. The diacetate is readily hydrolyzed to 5-(and-6)-carboxy-2',7'-dichlorofluorescein by intracellular esterases.
