2'-Fucosyllactose is a human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) that has probiotic properties and regulates the mucosal immune system. It improves both humoral and cellular immune responses to vaccination in mice. 2'-Fucosyllactose serves as a bacterial substrate devoted to maintaining an optimal gut microbiota. Also, high levels of 2'-fucosyllactose is associated with excessive weight gain during exclusive breastfeeding in 0 to 5 months infants. HMOs are important metabolites regulating host innate immune response.
