A naturally occurring plant sterol that inhibits the absorption of dietary and endogenously produced cholesterol from the small intestine, reducing blood cholesterol concentrations at 0.1 - 100 μM; dose dependently induces adipogenesis and lipolysis in rat primary preadipocytes; stimulates glucose uptake in differentiated adipocytes.
