A member of the rifamycin class of antibiotics, inhibiting bacterial DNA-dependent RNA synthesis (Ki = ~ 1 nM); activates PXR (EC₅₀ = ~2 µM), up-regulating enzymes that alter drug metabolism; inhibits OATPs with Ki/IC₅₀ values ranging from 0.58-18 µM.
