Inhibits ACAT (IC50s = 5-10 nM in various animals) reducing plasma total- and LDL-cholesterol without affecting HDL-cholesterol; inhibits cholesterol esterification in adenocarcinoma and hepatoma cells (IC50s = 150 and 330 nM, respectively).
