Don’t Toss Your Used PPE – Recycle It!

In recent years, businesses have gotten pretty good at recycling primary waste streams such as cardboard, paper, plastic, and aluminum. But what about other commonly used items, such as single-use apparel, safety glasses, and nitrile gloves?

Kimberly-Clark Professional has a solution: The RightCycle™ Program.

This groundbreaking service enables companies to collect previously hard-to-recycle items, such as nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and single-use apparel items, and have them turned into new plastic products and consumer goods. The used PPE is shipped to domestic recycling facilities where they are sorted and processed into pellets and then molded into flowerpots, plastic shelving, and other products.

At a time when consumers expect businesses and institutions to “do the right thing” when it comes to sustainability, The RightCycle™ Program provides an innovative waste management solution for items that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

Since 2011, The RightCycle™ Program has helped labs, cleanrooms, universities, manufacturing facilities, zoos, and aquariums in North America divert more than 1,000 tons of PPE waste from landfills.

It doesn’t take long for it all to add up. For example, the average cleanroom worker can generate over 660 pounds of apparel and glove waste each year. In a 100-person facility, that quickly adds up to over 30 metric tons of used PPE. Why send it to the landfill when you can extend its useful life by having it recycled into new consumer products?

The RightCycle Program is a complementary service provided to all companies who use Kimberly-Clark Professional apparel items, safety glasses, and/or nitrile gloves in non-hazardous applications.

If you use PPE in your facility and need help in achieving your sustainability goals, consider RightCycle by Kimberly-Clark Professional®.
