PPARs are ligand-activated transcription factors belonging to the large superfamily of nuclear receptors. PPARα primarily activates genes encoding proteins involved in fatty acid oxidation, while PPARγ primarily activates genes directly involved in lipogenic pathway and insulin signalling.
