Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid component, usually present on the cytosolic side of cell membranes by an enzyme called flippase. When a cell undergoes apoptosis, phosphatidylserine is no longer restricted to the cytosolic part of the membrane, but becomes exposed on the surface of the cell.
A slowly metabolized structural phospholipid found mainly in gray matter.
Phosphatidyl Serine has been reported to have positive effects on mental function and mood. It has been prescribed to those suffering from age associated cognitive decline. It has also been suggested that Phosphatidyl Serine could help improve aerobic endurance by delaying the onset of fatigue.
