Lactobacillus Selection HiVeg™ agar base is recommended for isolation and enumeration of Lactobacilli from food. Hiveg medium is used as a selective medium for isolation and enumeration of Lactobacilli from oral, faecal specimens, food and dairy products. It is found to be more suitable for growth of lactobacilli than Tomato Juice Medium traditionally used to isolate lactobacilli. Growth from Lactobacillus Selection broth base (M1166) can be isolated on Lactobacillus Selection agar Base. Since these media are highly selective, they should not be used for maintenance of lactobacilli. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
