Ready-to-use LB Agar Plates (Luria formulation) with 1.6% Skim Milk are used for the growth and maintenance of E. coli containing recombinant plasmids. This medium is nutritionally rich, which allows for rapid growth. The Luria formulation contains the least amount of sodium chloride of the LB formulations (Miller 1.0%, Lennox 0.5%, and Luria 0.05%).
Skim milk contains casein, a protein that certain bacteria can digest. So, this medium can be used to test if bacteria can break down casein, which is indicated by clear zones around the bacterial colonies.
Contains 1.0% (10 g/L) tryptone, 0.5% (5 g/L) yeast extract, 0.05% (0.5 g/L) sodium chloride, 1.6% skim milk, and either 1.5% or 2% agar.
