It has a role as a catalyst. On contact, it will cause wood and other organic materials to char, but it is unlikely to start a fire. Inhalation of low or high doses for long periods of time can result in negative health effects. It's used to make fertilizers and other products, as well as in petroleum refining, iron and steel production, and a variety of other uses.
