Biochem Physiol Actions: LDLR's (low density lipoprotein receptor) major function is to regulate the level of lipoprotein particles by mediating the clearance of LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride through receptor mediated endocytosis. LDLR is involved in proliferation by providing cholesterol for membrane synthesis. The LDLR gene is a target for treating cardiovascular diseases. Mutation in the gene causes familial hypercholesterolemia.
