Synonyms: 3alpha,7alpha,12alpha-Trihydroxy-5beta-cholan-24-oylglycine amidohydrolase
CAS Number: 37289-07-9
MDL No.: MFCD00130789
Storage: -20C
Enzyme Commission (EC) Number: 3.5.1.24 ( BRENDA | IUBMB )
UNSPSC Code: 12352204
Application: The enzyme from Sigma has been used in the analysis of bile samples in various studies.
Biochem/physiol Actions: The enzyme is an N-terminal nucleophilic (Ntn) hydrolase that catalyzes the hydrolysis of amide bonds, liberates the glycine/taurine moiety from the steroid core and eventually yields unconjugated bile acids. Agents that oxidize thiol groups (e.g., p-mercuribenzoate, iodoacetamide, Hg2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+) have been shown to strongly inhibit bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity in Clostridium perfringens.
Physical form: Partially purified lyophilized powder containing buffer salts and stabilizer
Unit Definition: One unit will hydrolyze 1.0 mumole of glycocholic acid to glycine and cholic acid in 5 min at pH 5.6 at 37 C.
RIDADR: NONH for all modes of transport
