Biochem Physiol Actions: NUCB1 (Nucleobindin-1) gene encodes a protein belonging to the small calcium-binding EF-hand protein family. Apart from two EF-hand motifs, it contains a signal peptide, acidic and basic regions and a leucine-zipper motif. The protein may function in Golgi calcium homeostasis and may also participate in Ca2+-regulated signal transduction processes. It also plays a role in autoimmunity and apoptosis.
