Biochem Physiol Actions: CLIC4 (chloride intracellular channel 4) gene encodes a chloride intracellular channel that belongs to the CLIC family of chloride channels. It binds to H3R (Histamine H3 receptor), a G protein-coupled receptor that negatively regulates neurotransmitter release, and promotes receptor cell surface expression. Its expression is up-regulated by TGF-ß1 in myofibroblasts. TGF-ß1 mediates the conversion of fibroblasts into myofibroblasts. Increased expression of CLIC4 is found to inhibit cell motility. It colocalizes with AKAP350, a scaffolding protein for several protein kinases and phosphatases, at the centrosome and midbody, and regulates cytoskeletal organization during the cell cycle. It may be involved in the formation of vessel lumen during tubular morphogenesis. It promotes endothelial cell proliferation and morphogenesis and may function in angiogenesis. It is capable of forming a redox-regulated ion channel.
