Synonyms: Anti-CDM antibody produced in rabbit; Anti-Caldesmon antibody produced in rabbit
MDL Number: MFCD03096753
Storage: -20C
Application: Anti-CALD1 antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project (www.proteinatlas.org). Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. The antibodies are also tested using immunofluorescence and western blotting. To view these protocols and other useful information about Prestige Antibodies and the HPA, visit sigma.com/prestige.
Biochem Physiol Actions: Caldesmon 1 is a cytoskeleton-associated protein encoded by the gene CALD1. It is capable of binding to actin and functions in the stabilization of actin filaments. It can also bind to calmodulin and play a role in the regulation of smooth muscle and nonmuscle contraction. The binding domain of this protein also binds to tropomyosin, myosin, and phospholipids. CALD1 has been implicated in actin cytoskeletal modeling and cell migration. It is associated with actin stress fibers and membrane ruffles, where it plays a role in the polymerization of these fibers. It also functions in cell division, adhesion and apoptosis. It serves as a marker for distinguishing muscularis propria from desmoplasia, facilitating proper staging of colonic adenocarcinoma. It plays a role in gastric cancer metastasis.
