Simport Tariff Letter

March 2025

Dear Customers,

Following the communication you received yesterday from our Sales Manager, Mrs. Erin St. Onge, regarding the new duty surcharge imposed by the U.S. Government, Simport would like to provide additional information.

For at least the last 50 years, Simport has covered duties and customs entries for all United States customers. If you review your customs entries, you will not find Simport listed as the shipper.

Simport has been the importer of record for all U.S. shipments. As it stands, the new surcharge imposed by the U.S. Government applies to all HS codes and all products manufactured in Canada and China.

As of March 4th, the tariffs are as follows:

  • 25% on all Canadian-made products, which includes the majority of Simport products
  • 20% (10% + 10%) on all Chinese-made products
  • 0% on products from all other countries

Simport will adjust the tariffs regularly to comply with any changes imposed by the U.S. Government.

Simport's Incoterm 2020 is FCA (Free Carrier) at our plant. You can find this information on our website under Terms and Conditions. Under this Incoterm, we are not obligated to clear the goods when they cross the U.S. border; however, Simport has been handling this process and will continue to do so.

It is important to note that the tariff surcharge is billed by the U.S. customs broker, regardless of the carrier used or who books the shipment.

Simport will add the total surcharge to your remittance invoice.

Additionally, please note that as of now, the U.S. Government website has not yet been updated with the most recent changes regarding the newly imposed duty surcharge.
