Acrylic Plastic
- Made of transparent acrylic plastic to give maximum protection against beta radiation during procedures such as nucleic acid sequencing, recombinant DNA studies, etc., using beta emitting isotopes
- Beta radiation from a 100 mCi point source of P32 shows no penetration through a 9.5 mm thick acrylic layer as measured by an Eberline E-120 counter
- Label showing standard radiation symbol in magenta and the warning “Caution-Radioactive Material” is included with each item
WARNING: these shields do not block out secondary X-rays or gamma radiation. Radioactive waste should be handled carefully and disposed of promptly and properly. For standards related to radioactive isotope exposure, see United States Nuclear Regulatory Commision, Rules and Regulations, Title 10, Chapter 1, Part 20.
- Constructed of 3/8” thick transparent acrylic plastic, 457 x 305 x 305 mm (18" x 12" x 12")
- Base acts as work surface, protecting bench against contamination
- Angled top permits overhead view of materials being handled
- Constructed of 9.5 mm thick transparent acrylic plastic, 457 mm wide x 610 mm high
- 305 mm deep base acts as a work surface for radioactive materials, protecting bench against contamination from beta emissions
- Angled top permits overhead view of materials being handled
- Multi-functional
Usable as a backdrop for benchtop beta shields, 8247B05 and B10; place U-shaped shield on bench surface behind benchtop shield to prevent exposure of workers in back of the bench to radiation. If station must be left temporarily, place U-shaped shield on base of benchtop shield to enclose radiation sample within shields. Functions as a waste container shield; place shield on its two sides on bench surface to create a front, back and top enclosure system. To transport radioactive material in the lab, place one side panel on bench top to make a bottom, front and top system.
Thickness: 11 mm ( 3/8”).
