Ready-to-use Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) Plates with 5% blood is for growth of fastidious organisms. It can be used for the isolation, identification, and antimicrobial-susceptibility testing of Streptococcus. The combination of soy and casein peptones supply organic nitrogen in the form of amino acids and polypeptides, making the medium highly nutritious. Sodium chloride is added to maintain the osmotic equilibrium. Sheep blood allows visualization of hemolytic reactions from some bacterial species.
Typically, 100 mm plates round plates are for growth/selection, while 150 mm plates round plates are for screening.
Contains 1.5% (15 g/L) tryptone, 0.5% (5 g/L) soytone, 0.5% (5 g/L) sodium chloride, 5% defibrinated sheep's blood, and 1.5% agar.
