Soytone-based LB Broth (Miller formulation) is used for the growth of E. coli containing recombinant plasmids. Soytone is produced by enzymatic hydrolysis of defatted soybean meal/flour using papain (from papaya) and is therefore, an animal component–free source (ACF) of polypeptides, amino acids, minerals, and micronutrients. ACF LB Broth provides greater lot-to-lot consistency and is ideal for applications where the use of animal products presents a safety hazard and a source of unwanted contamination.
Contains 1.69% (16.9 g/L) soytone, 0.5% (5 g/L) yeast extract, and 1.0% (10 g/L) sodium chloride.
