Ready-to-use LB Lennox Agar Plates with Carbenicillin are for non-selective cultivation of recombinant E. coli, commonly used for molecular genetic studies. The LB Lennox formulation has half the sodium chloride of the LB Miller formulation.
Carbenicillin is used to select for mutated or transformed cells that carry the bla gene, which confers resistance to ampicillin (Amp or AmpR) and carbenicillin. Carbenicillin is a semi-synthetic ampicillin analog that does not allow growth of satellite colonies due to extracellular secretion of lactamase. Typically, low-copy-number plasmids require less carbenicillin than high-copy-number plasmids. Note: 100 µg/mL carbenicillin is the most commonly used concentration.
Standard fill volume for 100 mm plates is 25 mL. We also offer larger fill volumes (80 mL) for 150 mm plates.
Contains 1.0% (10 g/L) tryptone, 0.5% (5 g/L) yeast extract, 0.5% (5 g/L) sodium chloride, 1.5% agar, and carbenicillin (concentration varies by part number).
