Ready-to-use CM Glucose Agar Plates are primarily used to grow yeast and fungi. Complete Minimal (CM) Dropout Medium is a defined medium that can contain different carbon sources. CM Glucose contains 2% glucose (dextrose) as a carbon source. This synthetic medium is used as a metabolite drop-out medium for the selective growth of recombinant yeast or study of auxothropies.
Complete Minimal (CM) Dropout Medium contains a yeast nitrogen base (vitamins, trace elements, and inorganic salts), nitrogen (0.5% ammonium sulfate), amino acids, and nucleobases. Because this medium is defined, it can be altered for the desired purpose: amino acids and nucleobases can be omitted for studies centered around those particular metabolites.
CM Glucose Agar Plates are listed as “CM Glucose Agar Plates minus [amino acid]” and/or “CM Glucose Agar Plates minus [nucleobase]” based on which amino acids or nucleobases are omitted.
