A syringe is used as an airtight piston that is mounted on a wood base and platform. Mechanical pressure in the form of weight, is placed on the platform, which changes the volume gas. You then plot the volume of gas versus the pressure to obtain a good approximation of Boyle's Law. The unit contains two wooden blocks and 60ml syringe.
