Synonym: PDL Solution
CAS Number: 25988-63-0
Empirical Formula (Hill Notation): C16H15N5 · 2HCl
MDL Number: MFCD00165424
Application
Recommended as a cell culture substratum when using 0.5 mL of a 0.1 mg/ml solution to coat 25 cm2. Optimal conditions for attachment must be determined for each cell line and application.
Other Notes
This poly-L-lysine is relatively low density which provides good handling characteristics. However, it may be degraded by some cell types. In that case a poly-D-lysine should be chosen.
General Description
Poly-lysine polymers are useful molecules to prepare surfaces for cell attachment. Poly-lysine polymers are available in L and D conformations. Poly-L-lysine polymers can be digested by some cell types, whereas poly-D-lysines are stable. Poly-lysine polymers from 70 to 300 kDa provide sufficient attachment site density for good cell adherence. However, higher the molecular weight poly-lysine polymers are more viscous and difficult to work with.
The choice of poly-lysine polymer for a specific cell type and application should account for the susceptibility of the polymer to digestion, the required attachment site density and the difficulty in handling.
