Preparation Method
Reagents are tested and chosen for their ability to promote optimum growth of S. cerevisiae when combined in YEP Broth formulations. Chosen reagents are combined in the proper proportions according to the formulation listed above and thoroughly blended for a uniform distribution. A sample of the blended formulation is used to prepare agar medium. The combinations are mixed to dissolve components and then autoclaved at 121°C for 15 minutes.
Applications
YEP Broth is a standard media base for the maintenance and propagation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is used as a base for making a variation of YPD with an alternate carbon source.
Product Overview
YEP Broth is available in 2 different packaging formats: pre-measured capsules & bulk powder packaging.
Product Description
YEP Broth is YPD (YEPD) without dextrose. It contains only peptone and yeast extract and is therefore useful for yeast applications requiring an alternative carbon source. Add 38 mL glycerol per liter of YEP or YEP Agar to make YEP-glycerol (YEPG). Glycerol is a non-fermentable carbon source and respiratory deficient mutants will not grow on YEPG.
Recommended Use
For YEP-glycerol (YEPG) medium: Add 38 mL glycerol per liter YEP Broth or Agar base. Glycerol is a non-fermentable carbon source and respiratory deficient mutants will not grow on YPEG.
