Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) is an ionic SDS detergent used to denature proteins in hybridization, nucleic acid purification, and electrophoresis buffer systems. SDS is also used to dissociate nucleic acid protein complexes in DNA extraction protocols, to disrupt cell membranes, and to prepare prehybridization and/or hybridization solutions.
To make a 10% SDS solution, dissolve 100 g of SDS in 900 ml of ddi water. Heat to 68° C to assist dissolution. Adjust the pH to 7.2 by adding a few drops of HCl. Adjust the total volume to 1 L with ddi water, then dispense into aliquots.
