Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used as a reagent for the precipitation of proteins and nucleic acids. Has been used to determine protein concentration by quantitative precipitation with the Lowry method. Also used as a decalcifier and fixative in microscopy and in protein sequencing for detecting albumin and organic synthesis.
