This March, we teamed up with the Water@Work Ministry and our friends at HACH to help get clean water to the people of the Dominican Republic.
To many of us in the United States, clean water is something we take for granted – it’s cheap, readily available, and an afterthought. Many others around the world, however, are not so fortunate.
Water scarcity is defined as the lack of clean, potable water within a given area. This can be due to climate change, natural disasters, overuse of water resources, and other factors. According to the United Nations, water scarcity will affect more than 40% of the world's population by 2030 – meaning that billions of people will be without access to clean water within just a handful of years.
The Dominican Republic is one nation in particular that’s being plagued by water scarcity. According to the World Water Council, over 3 million people in the country do not have access to clean water. This lack of clean water can lead to serious health conditions, such as cholera and dysentery. Additionally, it can cause economic hardship, as families have to spend money on purchasing clean water or treating illnesses caused by contaminated water.

To help combat this devastating issue through our Thomas Cares Corporate Social Responsibility program, we teamed up with our friends at HACH to donate 2% of sales on all HACH products sold through Thomas Scientific during March 2022 to the Water@Work Ministry, a non-profit that provides safe water to the people of the Dominican Republic. We are very pleased to report that a total of $7,304 was raised during this initiative!

From all of us at Thomas Scientific, thank you so much to HACH, to all customers who contributed, and to Water@Work for leading the charge to end global water scarcity!
