Ready-Red is a proprietary mixture of chloroform and isoamylalcohol that can be used to remove traces of phenol from the aqueous phase or can be mixed directly with AquaPhenol (void volume in AquaPhenol bottle is adapted to this purpose). Ready-Red improves the recovery of nucleic acids during phenol extractions by making it much easier to visually distinguish the organic and aqueous phases. The red color (an insoluble, harmless dye compound) does not affect the quality of extracted DNA and can be adapted to any existing phenol extraction protocol.
Ready-Red can be used for removing lingering traces of phenol from the aqueous phase and extracting nucleic acids directly when mixed with AquaPhenol.
