AquaPhenol is double-distilled phenol saturated with ultrapure water (30% water v/v) and is used in the purification of nucleic acids. AquaPhenol is supplied ready to use for RNA purification and can be quickly pH-adjusted for DNA purification using the pH Maker™ solutions provided (pH 7.5 and pH 8.0). AquaPhenol contains no antioxidant or other additives.
Ready Red™ is a proprietary mixture of chloroform and isoamylalcohol that can be used to remove traces of phenol from the aqueous phase or can be mixed directly with AquaPhenol (void volume in AquaPhenol bottle is adapted to this purpose). ReadyRed improves the recovery of nucleic acids during phenol extractions by making it much easier to visually distinguish the organic and aqueous phases. The red color (an insoluble, harmless dye compound) does not affect the quality of extracted DNA and can be adapted to any existing phenol extraction protocol.
Aqua Phenol/Ready-Red kits are combination packs containing two bottles of Ready-Red for every bottle of AquaPhenol.
