All sizes have negative graduations above zero mark; for serological work, ignore graduations and use pipet as blow-out pipet calibrated "to contain". For other work, liquid can be drawn above zero mark to negative graduation that will compensate for drainage retention, and pipets may be used without blow-out in manner used with measuring pipets calibrated "to deliver". Proper negative graduation must be determined for viscosity of fluid being dispensed and for drainage time to be allowed.
