Petri Dishes

Petri dishes are suitable for a range of applications within the lab. Petri dish sizes and shapes include shallow and flat shapes, allowing for easy observation of microbial or cell growth under a microscope. Many lab petri dishes carry vents within the lid facilities, proper air circulation, and can prevent condensation build-up, which could lead to contamination. They can be easily stacked and organized, keeping your workspace tidy.

Screw-top petri dishes are often used for sample storage and are suitable for long-term storage options over extended periods. Autoclavable petri dishes are designed to withstand the brutal conditions of high-heat and pressure applications and provide excellent compatibility with laboratory equipment. Petri dishes are versatile tools for conducting experiments, such as studying microbial interactions, testing hypotheses, and observing the effects of various conditions on microbial growth.

What are the different sizes of petri dishes?

Petri dishes are available in various sizes to accommodate different laboratory applications. Small dishes, typically 35 mm or 60 mm in diameter, are used for small-scale studies or culturing individual samples. Standard sizes, such as 90 mm and 100 mm in diameter, are the most commonly used for microbial and cell culture experiments.
Larger dishes, measuring 150 mm or more in diameter, provide greater surface area and are ideal for applications like tissue culture or environmental sampling. Additionally, some Petri dishes have greater depth, making them suitable for liquid cultures or higher sample volumes.

What size are disposable petri dishes?

Disposable Petri dishes come in various sizes to suit various laboratory needs. Common sizes include 35 mm, 60 mm, 90 mm, and 100 mm in diameter, with 90 mm being the most widely used for microbial culture and routine lab work. Larger sizes, such as 150 mm, are also available for applications requiring more surface area, like colony isolation or environmental sampling.
