Ready-to-use Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) Plates are for growth of nonfastidious and moderately fastidious microorganisms (e.g., Neisseria, Listeria, and Brucella). Soy peptones supply organic nitrogen in the form of amino acids and polypeptides. Sodium chloride is added to maintain the osmotic equilibrium. Soytone is produced by enzymatic hydrolysis of defatted soybean meal/flour using papain (from papaya) and is therefore, an animal component–free source of polypeptides, amino acids, minerals, and micronutrients. Animal component-free (ACF) media provide greater lot-to-lot consistency and are ideal for applications where the use of animal products presents a safety hazard and a source of unwanted contamination. TSA plates are non-selective and non-differential plates. Contains 2.0% (20 g/L) soytone, 0.5% (5 g/L) sodium chloride, and 1.5% agar.
