Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
NaCl is one of the most versatile window materials available, due to its spectral range and low cost. Samples should not contain water because NaCl is hygroscopic. This will cause the windows to fog and become unusable. Store NaCl cells in a desiccator when not in use. NaCl withstands mechanical stress and can be used up to 400 °C.
