Kovac's Reagent Strips can be used for the determination of the ability of microorganisms, primarily Enterobacteriaceae, to split indole from the tryptophan molecule. Kovac's reagent is prepared by dissolving 10g of p-aminobenzaldehyde in 150mL of isoamylalcohol and slowly adding 50mL of concentrated hydrochloric acid.
