Nampt is an adipokine involved in the biosynthesis of NAD+ and is highly expressed in visceral fat. It promotes vascular smooth muscle cell maturation, inhibits neutrophil apoptosis, and activates the insulin receptor with insulin-mimetic effects, lowering blood glucose and improving insulin sensitivity. Serum levels of Nampt correlate with obesity.
